The Story
A Legacy Born from Love and Ingenuity
In a small workshop in Giengen, Germany, Margarete Steiff began sewing felt animals with a passion that would change childhood forever. Her motto, "Only the best is good enough for children", was not a slogan. It was a promise, and it remains one today.
In 1902, her nephew Richard Steiff designed the world's first jointed teddy bear, a plush bear with fully jointed arms and legs. Two years later, the legendary Button in Ear was introduced: a small brass hallmark that became the defining symbol of authentic, collectible Steiff bears worldwide.

Every genuine Steiff bear and soft toy carries a small metal button stitched into its ear, known in German as the Knopf im Ohr. Introduced in 1904, this is your guarantee of authenticity, proof the toy has been made to the exacting standards Margarete Steiff herself demanded.

Trade Terms
Accounts are offered on 30 days net with a minimum annual spend of €1,000, of which €750 must be placed as the first order. All invoices are payable by international forex transfer. Credit cards are not accepted.
